Lomax Victorious at Croft.
Craig Lomax opened his 2016 MSA British Rallycross Championship assault at Croft circuit with an emphatic win. The Milltek backed driver eased himself back into business as usual as if he had not stopped for the winter break.
His rebuilt Citroen C2R2 didn’t miss a beat during the opening heats at the Yorkshire circuit. With the new format that has been introduced by the Championship sees all classes except the RX150, Juniors, Swifts and Supercars all compete in mixed heats. Lomax didn’t let this distract him from the business in hand. At the Intermediate classification Lomax was in fourth place overall which earned him a front row slot for the semi-finals. Second place saw Lomax proceed to the final. Most of which he was running right behind the leader Paige Bellerby. Unfortunately, Lomax pulled up on the penultimate lap with overheating problems.
It was enough to gain him a class win and to come away from round one with maximum Championship points. Lomax also set the fastest laptime of the day in the Super 1600 class of 50.518. Full results can be viewed on the championship website.

Craig Lomax, #24:
‘It was great to be back out and racing again, I’ve been looking forward to starting this exciting season all winter!
It was a shame we had to pull up in the final but we knew we had done enough for maximum points and didn’t want to damage the engine this early in the season.
Thanks to all my sponsors for making this year possible hopefully there are many great things to come this year.’
The second round of the championship moves south to Lydden Hill in Kent over the Easter weekend Sunday 27thand Monday 28th March.
