Lomax Silences Critics

Craig Lomax headed into round 7 of the Shannon British Rallycross Championship with one thing on his mind, and that was to prove once and for all just why is he the new Super 1600 British Champion.

The day started with Lydden Hill, the home of Rallycross, shrouded in a blanket of thick fog making visibility extremely limited. This was soon dispersed and replaced with heavy rain accompanied with thunder and lightning. To say that the conditions were tough would have been an understatement!

A convincing A-Final win for Lomax

To add to the pressure Lomax’s Citroen C2R2 had a new and largely untested engine installed by Impulse Performance Engine Developments.

In the first heat Lomax was drawn a grid position to the rear of the field. With his superior torque he was soon weaving his way through the rest of the field. He was challenging for the lead on the entrance to the first corner, but was caught out by the conditions and sent him spinning off the circuit.  He managed to recover and finish in third spot.

Lomax made no such mistake in the second and third heats driving to successive heat victories in impressive style.

He started the final from pole position and made it onto the loose section at Chessons in first place. Lomax opted to take his joker lap on the third lap and re-joined just behind the new leader. It was only a matter of time before he reclaimed the lead which he did on the final lap when the leader had no choice but to take his Joker. With clearly superior power he pulled away and took the flag without any problems.

Craig Lomax, #24:
‘We wanted to go out and make a point. A lot of people have said we have won the championship this year without being tested. I think that today we have proven we have a championship winning car!’

The championship now moves north to Croft Circuit for the season finale, which will also include the Grand Prix on 10th and 11th October.
